Value Landscape

Value Landscape

Fourth graders learned how to use white to lighten colors (tint) and black to darken them (shade). They applied their new understanding to a landscape painting that also demonstrated their ability to use horizon lines to create the feeling of distance.

Students learned that the feeling of distance can be achieved through changing color, size, the position of an object on the page, and adding horizon lines. They were challenged to create a landscape painting not only showed distance but made a connection with science or social studies. The resulting artwork is nothing short of awesome!

Collaborative Pop Art Mural

Grid drawing is a technique used to replicate and/or enlarge an image. Pop artists often used this technique as they created large scale paintings of comics, ads, and everyday objects. Fourth graders studied pop artists Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol then used the grid technique as they worked collaboratively on these large scale POP murals.
